Human milk is the best source of nourishment for infants. Mommy’s Milk Human Milk Research Biorepository strives to understand the numerous benefits human milk offers at a molecular level, and use these findings to improve the health and development of all children. This initiative demonstrates our place at the forefront of human milk and lactation discoveries. We are making it easier for scientists to perform research with standardized, sterile and indexed human milk samples. We are the organizing entity, but we need inquisitive researchers and the open-handedness of lactating moms. With your help, we can all demonstrate our commitment to the future improvements in children’s health and development.
Mommy’s Milk Human Milk Research Biorepository initiatives include two main efforts:
- Establishing a clinical research database of human milk indexed samples for medial scientists to query and cull from for independent, IRB approved projects.
- Further the understanding of the relationship between human milk and infant and child health and development.
Mommy’s Milk Human Milk Research Biorepository is a multidisciplinary research initiative of UC San Diego’s Department of Pediatrics Center for Better Beginnings and the UC San Diego Altman Clinical and Translation Research Institute-Center for Life Course Research, with the support of Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns, and MotherToBaby Pregnancy Studies.
