A baby’s first meals may help them improve immunity, fight germs and promote gut health. Colostrum is the first form of breastmilk that is released by the mammary glands after giving birth. It’s nutrient-dense and high in antibodies and antioxidants to build a newborn baby’s immune system. It changes to breast milk within two to four days after your baby is born. Participants are now enrolling into this study looking at colostrom and the key properties needed for optimal newborn nutrition. As part of this study, we will ask you to provide a sample of your milk and cheek swab from both mom and baby within two days after giving birth and then again approximately 3 weeks later. These samples will be used to examine the characteristics of early breast milk. All samples are collected by the mom remotely and then mailed to the study office in a pre-paid envelope. Participants will receive a $50 gift card to compensate them for their time.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
You are eligible to participate if you are:
- 18 years of age or older
- Planning on breastfeeding
- Access to an electric pump
You’ll be asked to:
- Provide milk samples collected at approximately 2 days and 3 weeks after delivery
- Collect milk samples at home using mom’s personal electric breast pump and ship to our study office using materials we will provide at no cost to the mom
- Release baby’s medical records
- Complete phone interviews
- Submit questionnaires about your child’s development
